Translation Memories If you want, for example, a manual to be translated, it is useful to use CAT (Computer Aided Translation) tools such as Trados. All terms and segments of the sentences are stored in the database in both languages, the Translation Memory (TM). At a later revision of this manual the CAT tool then suggests the stored terms. The translator can simply take them over and does not need to look them up again. With this the terms remain consistent through all following translations.

Even documents that contain similar text can be translated with CAT tools, thus saving time and effort. With the delivery of the translation you will also get the Translation Memory. So you are independent and can simply send the TM at further orders of translations. Using a CAT tool also helps to reduce the costs of translation since revision or translation of similar text cost less than for a translation without TM. The more exact matches, the less new words that have to be translated. |
